The moment the lights dimmed and opening act Aly & A.J. departed the stage, the cheer went out from the state fair grandstand crowd Saturday night:
“Jesse! Jesse! Jesse!” the young people chanted.
Ten minutes later, the huge stage backdrop banner was raised, featuring the way-bigger-than-life image of headliner Jesse McCartney. The fans shrieked.
When McCartney took the stage with his five-piece band, the volume grew louder and even more piercing. Handmade signs of adoration, most adorned with the cute lettering, were held as high as the hands that made them could reach.
The concert had officially gone from heroes to heartthrob.]]>

For his sophomore set, McCartney enlisted the help of Kelly Clarkson super-producer John Shanks. But that’s not the only thing that’s changed; Jesse has added more soul to his infectious pop formula and even co-wrote four of album’s tracks.
